On Sunday, November 10, 2024, the Brawley Cattle Call continued its weekend of community celebration with a heartwarming event designed specifically for foster youth. The "BBQ on the Bluff'' lunch, hosted above the iconic Cattle Call Arena, provided 100 foster children from Imperial County with a memorable experience of delicious food, camaraderie, and the thrill of attending the Sunday afternoon rodeo.

"Many of these children have faced difficult and isolating experiences. Events like the BBQ on the Bluff are so important for their emotional well-being. It gives them a chance to feel connected, supported, and just be kids for a day," CASA Executive Director Alex Cardenas said.

Sponsored by the Friends of CASA of Imperial County, this meaningful gathering was all about creating joy and connection for foster youth. CASA, which serves over 300 children annually who have suffered from abuse or neglect, ensured these children could enjoy a day of celebration at the rodeo, providing tickets, a hearty BBQ lunch, and an opportunity to connect with their peers and the community.

The event underscored the importance of giving foster youth access to experiences that create a sense of normalcy, fun, and belonging. Attendees gathered on the bluff, enjoying breathtaking views of the rodeo arena and the high-spirited atmosphere that defines the Cattle Call tradition.

"I had so much fun! My favorite part was seeing all the horses and being with my friends. I hope I can come back again next year," 10 year old Jordyn-Rae said.

This year's event would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of sponsors who share a commitment to supporting foster children and uplifting the community. A special thanks goes to LeConte Energy Storage, SOLV Energy, Arevon, RWE Clean Energy, Charter Communications, Monarch Energy, Intersect Power, Slingshot PA, Sunrise Strategies Group, Ruth & Joe Montenegro, DuBose Design Group, Rancho Los Lagos LLC, Twisted Frenzy, Valley Craft, and the City of Brawley.

"These kids are the heart of our community and being able to give them a day of joy, laughter, and togetherness is an honor. Seeing their smiles and knowing they're having a great time makes everything we do worthwhile," Laura McDonald, of Sunrise Strategies, said.

The day left a lasting impact not only on the foster youth who participated but on everyone who came together to make it happen. Events like the "BBQ on the Bluff'' illustrate how a community united in compassion and generosity can create brighter futures for its most vulnerable members.
